If you are interested in working on the personal statement during the months of May-July, the best option is my summer class. The May-June experience is designed to take advantage of the time between AP exams and full-fledged summer; the July experience is focused on finishing the personal statement within four weeks. Both June and July classes are full; thank you for your interest!
Class description: Students will begin by selecting a time at their convenience for a one-on-one hour of dedicated brainstorming, goal-setting, and main idea definition.
After our 1:1, there will be three workshop sessions on Sunday afternoons (these will be recorded if students’ schedules conflict): one on essay purpose, prompt selection, and voice, a second on structure, introductions, and content creation, and a final on revision strategies, detail selections, and conclusions. These will be spaced out every two weeks, with a maximum of one hour needed to work on the essay each week.
During the class, there will be staggered deadlines, steps, and exercises that require the student to generate and revise their personal statement multiple times. They will receive individual feedback on every single revision, and office hours will be available if students want more face time during or at the end of the process. Students will have their essays completely finished by the end of of the program.
This format allows me to bring all of my best examples, strategies, and information and disseminate it in a fun and organized way - plus, I’m known for giving out prizes! A guest IEC will also visit to answer student questions.
